LET'S PLAY THE WRONG NOTES
Lauded for inspired performances with a “spirituality that is no longer heard today” in an age of sterile precision, MP studied in Paris under the auspices of the French government and further trained and performed throughout continental Europe. He was trained, encouraged and inspired by Europe’s greatest musicians born in the early 20th century, including Aldo Ciccolini, Ivan Moravec, Peter Feuchtwanger, Vitaly Margulis (grandpupil of Scriabin), Dominique Merlet, and briefly by titans such as maestro Claudio Abbado, maestro Seiji Ozawa, and writer Milan Kundera, who had unique insight into the music of Leoš Janáček.
Previously, he was mentored in his formative years by Byron Janis (himself an erstwhile live-in protégé of Vladimir Horowitz), with whom he worked through most of the output of Chopin and Rachmaninoff.
MP specialises in Chopin, Schumann, Scriabin, Franck, Rachmaninoff and Ravel, and his original arrangements for solo and chamber music, especially with the viola and the theremin.
